Headaches and migraines both involve head pain; however, they are different experiences, and it is important to know the difference in order to properly treat them. At Men’s Vitality Center in Tucson, we can treat your headache or migraine in such a way that both addresses the specific type of pain, and prevents future headaches.

Headaches

Headaches are characterized by aching pain or pressure in your head. They can occur anywhere on your head, but most often affect the temples, forehead, or back of your neck. There are three types of headaches: tension, sinus, and cluster.

Tension: These headaches are usually caused by stress or muscle strain. These are the most common type of headaches.
Sinus: Sinus headaches are similar to migraines, but occur simultaneously with sinus infection symptoms, such as stuffy nose, congestion, and fever.
Cluster: Cluster headaches typically occur only on one side of your head. It is normal to experience nasal congestion with this type of headache.

Migraines

In contrast, migraines feature the head pain of headaches, as well as other symptoms. Other symptoms include sensitivity to light and sound, nausea and vomiting, seeing spots, pain behind one eye, and temporary loss of vision. The intense pain of a migraine is often so severe that it is difficult to go about daily life. Some people even go to the emergency room due to the extremity of their migraine headaches.

A migraine may include an aura. An aura means sensations that indicate the impending onset of a migraine, including difficulty thinking, tingling in the face, flashing lights in vision, or unusual sense of smell, touch, or taste.
